I designed this after having the opportunity to examine a bow actually made by Howard Hill himself!
American Longbow has different tapers than the Union Jack. It stays true to the Howard Hill and Bob Stotler formulas. People think the Union Jack Longbow and American Longbow are the same, but they’re not. They’re similar. Union Jack has tapers my dad worked out after several years of trial and error. The American Longbow stays true to Howard Hill / Bob Stotler tapers per running inch, length of riser, and limb material all on the back of the bow. I tried to use more of a retro-look to the thickness of, the depth of, the width of the riser. It’s all more true to the actual real American Longbow that Howard Hill himself designed in the late 40’s, early 50’s. His glass laminated longbow was manly done with Bamboo or Yew.
The handle-riser is 15”
long and an overall length, starting at
64” for great performance and “no stack at the back”.
The American Longbow comes with tip overlays to accommodate Fast Flight string and has hand-stitched, leather grip.
Choice of wood combinations:
- Black Glass with Bamboo Cores and Rosewood Riser
- Clear Glass with Yew Cores and Bacote Riser
- Green Glass Back / White Glass Belly with Bamboo Cores and Myrtle Riser
Build time is currently 10-12 weeks.
Really smooth shooting longbow!
